Old Main
Main Hall or "Old Main" was completed in 1891 although a drawing of the completed plan was used to advertise the college years earlier. The building greatly expanded housing, classroom, and office space of the College. It was the center of campus life containing the dining hall, post office, library, infirmary, recreation rooms thoughout the years in addition to student housing.
In 1925 a fire in the basement damaged several rooms and displaced a number of students. Chambersburg responded to the fire by sending all of its engines. The Pennsylvania Railroad also sent fire fighting equipment. Within two hours the fire was put out.
In May of 1954 the Board of Trustees decided to raze Old Main for the construction of a new building to be known as McElwain-Davidson Hall.
